Artist Statement
When I was very little my mother would sit at the kitchen table clipping coupons from the newspapers. She'd give me a glue stick and her paper scraps to glue together. This kept me busy and built the foundation of the way I think about constructing art.
One of my favorite children’s books was Richard Scarry’s Best Word Book Ever, which was filled with large, complex illustrations. I would spend hours exploring the pages, feeling as if I were inside the pictures interacting with each detail. In my art I often like to create an abstract space that allows me to crawl through it and explore in that way.
I prefer to work abstractly, letting form and color communicate my thoughts, so that the viewer can relate to the art on an intuitive level. My recent work reflects an integration of my philosophical interests and personal symbolism.
